2024 GMV CERT Leadership Team
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is a nationally supported, locally implemented initiative that teaches people how to better prepare themselves for hazards that may affect their communities and engage until more help can arrive. Since 1993, CERT trains the public in basic disaster response skills such as team organization, disaster medical operations, fire safety, and search and rescue. The ability for CERT volunteers to perform these activities frees up professional responders to focus their efforts on more complex, essential, and critical tasks. In addition, the members of the GMV CERT team bring a host of professional level skills to the team driving excellence in our response and growing our teammates & neighbors through public training and events.
The Greater Maple Valley Community Emergency Response Team (GMV CERT) serves Black Diamond, Covington, Hobart, Maple Valley and Ravensdale. We have two primary missions 1) Execute a program that educates people regarding, first aid, safety and emergency preparedness for hazards that may impact our area and train them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and first aid. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. 2) We are the community's emergency disaster assistance when our primary first responders are not available!
